Strategic Objective
This thematic focus will strengthen the capacity of UWONET’s membership and the district women’s networks for strategic, programmatic, and administrative interventions by 2028.
In the next five years, UWONET will continue advocating for the change of attitudes and mindsets towards the rights of women and girls, advocate for gender-responsive laws and access to justice. The thematic area will have an emphasis on movement building.
Outcome 1: Enhanced membership growth and participation in the network
Key Strategic Actions:
1. Expand the network’s membership to correspond to UWONET’s response areas.
2. Disseminate and orient members on the network’s policies.
3. Develop and implement a capacity development programme for members.
4. Review membership policy
5. Develop membership database and update
6. Strengthen membership thematic clusters/working groups and collaboration.
7. Organize and facilitate joint activities and events including Women’s Forum/Platforms at different 8. Levels to promote collective vision and focus on the gender agenda.
9. Organize annual members’ forums
10. Coordinate information and knowledge sharing among UWONET’s members (capacity development).
Outcome 2: Diversified and sustainable resource base for UWONET
Key Strategic Actions:
1. Review the resource mobilization policy.
2. Initiate development of a consultancy/ social enterprise arm to enhance resource mobilization.
3. Develop asocial entrepreneurial policy/business plan
4. Organize annual donors’ forums.
5. Develop a sub-granting mechanism and build the capacity of the UWONET Secretariat in grants and fiduciary management.
Outcome 3: Enhanced technical capacity for effective governance and programme management.
Key Strategic Actions:
1. Review UWONET’s systems and policies to respond to the demands and challenges of the new Strategic Plan.
2. Conduct organizational capacity needs assessment of the UWONET secretariat.
3. Capacity development plan for Board and Staff to deliver programmes.
4. Plan for human resource attraction, sustainability, and development to deliver on the mandate of the organization.
5. Invest in equipment to meet the demands of the network role.
Outcome 4: Improved monitoring evaluation and learning systems at the UWONET Secretariat.
Key Strategic Actions:
1. Develop and maintain a robust organizational MEL system.
2. Build staff capacity to collect, analyse, report, and use data for decision making.
3. Provide staff with the necessary equipment and tools for MEL function.
4. Provide space for learning, reflection, documentation, and peer review.
5. Establish a staff capacity development plan
6. Develop a transition policy/plan
Outcome 5: Strengthen capacity for information generation on best practices for improved knowledge management and programming.
Key Strategic Actions:
1. Build capacity and institute systems and mechanisms to capture best practices.
2. Partner with research institutions to collect and disseminate contemporary information regarding gender equality and women’s empowerment.
3. Conduct research, publish and disseminate findings to inform policy and programming in gender equality and women’s empowerment.
4. Develop and maintain data management systems
5. Enhance institutional capacity in IT, Physical and Technical
6. Maintain active institutional online platforms such as; the website, Facebook, and Twitter among others.
7. Generate other innovative means/mechanisms of information sharing.
