Executive Summary

In preparing for the Fourth World Conference on Women, women from the East African Region convened in Kampala Uganda, for the preparatory conference. The East African Women’s Conference provided an opportunity and platform for sharing experiences and brought to light the need for joint action, continued networking and sharing information among women’s organizations in East Africa and at national levels.

For Uganda, the East African Women’s Conference was the conception of the Uganda Women’s Network (UWONET). The Uganda Planning Committee for the Conference continued and operationalized UWONET as an issue network for women in Uganda. A constitution was made and UWONET was registered in 1994.
