Report Overview
The Ugandan Constitution guarantees comprehensive rights for women. This was underpinned by the ratification of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), and is encoded in specific national laws to protect women from violence.
The past several years have seen women’s rights set back by the global economic crisis, the rise of religious fundamentalism, and a surge in political conservatism. Increasingly, women all over the world are denied access to power, resources, information, and basic rights.
