The election of women in Uganda’s 2016 general election was played out within the context of a hotly contested Presidential Parliamentary and local council elections. Women’s participation in politics is highly political in itself because women’s political legitimacy tends to be defined primarily on the basis of personal and private realms.
The stories of the women who contested in the 2016 General Elections in Uganda highlight the complex and dynamic process created within formal politics and electoral context.
