launch of the GBV Shelter in Kamuli.

Ms. Rita Aciro ED UWONET receives Maj. Kale Kayihura Inspector General of Police and H.E.Donal Cronin The Irish Ambassador to Uganda during the launch of the GBV Shelter in Kamuli.

Most survivors of Gender Based Violence (GBV) continue to lack post-trauma care. Cognizant of this fact UWONET with support from Irish Aid through the Joint Programme to address Gender Based Violence in the Busoga region, is piloting the establishment of GBV shelters in Kamuli and Namutumba Districts. For most women, the most likely place to experience violence is in their private homes. The shelter will therefore serve as a safe refuge for the women and children until the healing process (physically and emotionally) is complete. The staff at the shelter will also ensure that the survivor is integrated back into a safe community and home.
The launch will bring together the Joint Programme partners, Government Officials, Civil Society Organizations and other stakeholders.
