KEY MILESTONES OF THE YEAR
The year 2014 was phenomenal at national, regional and global level; it was dominated by insightful review and reflection on several post 2015 policy and legal frameworks among them: the sustainable Development Goals; the Beijing +20 review; the UNSCR 1325 +15
review; review of implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW); the United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) review; development of the second National Development Plan (NDPII) for Uganda. In addition, the country was also preparing itself for an upcoming electoral law reform and constitutional amendment process which is very fundamental in shaping the governance and destiny of Ugandans beyond 2015.
All these processes coincided with finalization and roll–out of a new five year (2014–2018) Strategic Plan for UWONET coupled with convening a very significant biennial women’s policy forum–the Women’s Week. UWONET took centre stage in collating, aggregating
and articulating views, concerns and aspirations of women in all these processes to ensure an outcome of a gender responsive development and legal framework at global, regional and national level that will ultimately eliminate persistent structural inequalities among
women, men, boys and girls.
